“They” are the shadow people,

Neither black nor white–but gray–

“They are my strange companions

in a most perplexing way…

“They” enter conversations

Through the lips of other men…

Their words are quoted to me

Time and time again…

“They” never have identities,

“They” have a sobriquet,

Always, that intangible

Elusive name of “they”

I don’t really mind their presence,

but what fills me with dismay,

is hearing myself speaking of

that obscure group of “they”!
