NOTHING TO WEAR

She sits by the window wearing

only an old pair of shoes. “flats” we called them.

She hasn’t a stitch of clothing on her body,

but knows no one can see in.

Unless of course, they have a telescope,

or a pair of those opera glasses.

Sometimes she suspects that   a man

in one of the other buildings

Might have a telescope.

He isn’t home right now, though,

and so she sits and nd contemplates

Woman’s age old complaint

except in her case, it’s true.

she hasn’t a thing to wear.
