A secret’s just a secret ’til you go and tell someone,
And then it’s not a secret any more,
Because the person you confide in.
That you tell your secret to,
Is sure to tell another soul the score.
And soon it’s not a secret for the whole darn town now knows,
You may as well have shouted from a mountain top,
Or put an ad into the Daily News,
So everyone will know,
You’ll never know just where the secret stops.
So if you want your secret kept–tell your dog or cat,
Tell the birds or tell the leaves up on a tree,
But don’t go telling any one–not your husband or your wife,
And for heaven’s sake
Don’t go telling me!
