DAY’S END

We thought it was the prettiest

Sunset we’d ever seen;

The light cast on the ocean waves

Was if as from a dream;

White-capped waves came

rushing forth

And crashing on the shore,

While sea-gulls circling overhead

Cried noisily “never more!”

It was high-tide and a full moon

That greeted us that night;

We walked far out upon the pier

And knew that this was right.

The end had come; we said goodbyes

While ashes swirled into the sea;

We saw his spirit lift and fly

And knew his soul was free.
