MEMORY

Memory is fluid

Like water in a creek,

Or rainfall splashing on your face,

And hands that reach to seek.

It slips between your fingers,

Drops splashing on the ground,

It leaves you in a moment,

Gone without a sound.

Memory is like that,

Here now, it’s like a chain,

But sometimes links are broken

and can’t be found again.

I remember….I remember…..

We say, until the day,

Our memory is fluid

and gently flows away.

Written July 27, 2008 for Viola Beckman Schmidt who would have been 91 years old on this date. Alzheimer’s took away her memory long before she passed away.
