“You are my sunshine,
my only sunshine”
we sang in harmony,
little girls on a
front porch swing,
No one but we three;
“You make me happy,
when skies are gray”
(sometimes I am off key)
“You’ll never know, dear,
how much I love you–”
My girlfriends smile at me.
We can’t imagine being grown,
a man to call us dear,
but we sing together in harmony,
and no where else but here.
I wonder what
the neighbor ladies thought,
little girls on their porch swings,
Surely they could hear us three,
as we tried to sing.
“You are my sunshine,
my only sunshine”
it was our favorite song
we didn’t know all the lyrics,
but we liked to sing along.
